Traie Roberson-Miles
CF-L3 Trainer CF-Kids Trainer CF-Masters Athlete Trainer CF-Aerobic Capacity Trainer CF Mobility Trainer Kettlebell RX 1.0 Trainer CPR/AED Certified Bio Traie Roberson gets it. Though she was a high-school athlete and continued to be active in college, life happened. She had a baby, and then she stopped making time for her own health and wellness. Determined to get her health back on track, she Googled CrossFit. Like many others, she was intimidated at first by what she saw: Pictures of muscle-bound men and women lifting weights and swinging from pull-up bars. Still, in 2012, she decided to give it a shot. “It was love at first workout,” she said. Not only were those intimidating things not so scary, but they were actually empowering. She loved how she felt physically and mentally after a great workout. In 2014, she joined Rushmore CrossFit and soon began coaching. “I had really found something I loved and was passionate about, and I wanted to be able to give that to other people,” she said. She took goal even further when she purchased the gym in 2015, merging her passion for fitness with her professional business experience. “My goal is to make fitness fun for everyone, help members accomplish their goals and achieve new personal records and build a positive and encouraging community,” she said. Devoted to the Rushmore community and helping people change their lives with fitness, Traie still coaches several classes each week. And if you want to get in shape but you’re feeling a little intimidated, just drop Traie a line. “The thing I look forward to most is when people achieve a goal they’ve been working on,” she said. “It’s not always about people’s one-rep maxes; I care about them living life-a long life.”
Austin Kaul
CF-L2 USAW Level 1 Certified Sports Performance Coach CPR/AED Certified Bio Like many people, Austin played sports in high school but became inactive in college. He found CrossFit in 2015 while pursuing a degree in mechanical engineering; today, he says the program helps him excel as he works toward a Ph.D. “My mental state’s so much better; I’m so much more efficient,” he said. As a Ph.D. student at the South Dakota School of Mines & Technology, Austin loves to teach, and coaching classes at Rushmore CrossFit is a perfect combination of his love for education and his passion for fitness. He’s a stickler for form and his top priority is safety, but what makes him light up most is seeing people improve. “I love when someone’s form improves and they get just uber excited to be able to lift more, or their cardiovascular capacity is going through the roof and they can do things they’ve never done before,” he said. The community at Rushmore CrossFit is what keeps him coming back to the gym every day. “It’s a good time to be miserable with others,” he joked. All jokes aside, Austin’s mission is to help others improve their minds and bodies one workout at a time. “I want everyone to enjoy their fitness experience, improve their body and do it safely,” he said.
